Building Success Through Writing: Quality Enhancement Plan

Writing is an essential element for career and future goals.

Writing Athens State students reported on a recent survey that they believe writing skills are an essential element for their career goals and future plans. Through the Building Success through Writing program, Athens State is enhancing the tools and services provided to students as they become stronger and more confident writers.

Companies value writing competence for hiring and promoting employees.

Companies Recent statistics reveal that half of the companies surveyed responded that “they take writing into consideration when hiring professional employees (Report of the National Commission on Writing, 2004, p.3). Further, “people who cannot write and communicate clearly are less likely to be hired than people who have these skills, and, if hired, they are unlikely to last long enough to be considered for promotion” (Budig, 2006, p. 663).

The QEP can strengthen academic competence.

QEP Building Success through Writing will help Athens State students strengthen their ability to research, collect, and assess scholarly information within their major field of study.

The University wide emphasis on writing can assist students in the composition of a variety of academic and career specific writing.

Keyboard Through Building Success through Writing, Athens State students will receive help in: developing and supporting a thesis statement; presenting written information clearly and logically; and creating audience-appropriate documents that exhibit clarity and organization.
