February 15: Huntsville Chapter of American Society of Women Accountants
The Huntsville chapter of American Society of Women Accountants is honored to present a scholarship opportunity for ambitious women attending accredited colleges and universities who are pursuing a degree in Accounting and have a minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter hours. Deadline for submitting applications for the 2014-2015 academic year is February 15, 2014. Applications are available at the site listed below or in the Financial Aid Office.

The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is offering up to $25,000 per year for 100 first-time freshman or existing college students, renewable up to four years and one additional year for those entering a qualified five-year engineering program.

March 31: MassMutual Scholars Program
MassMutual looks forward to assisting at least 30 undergraduate students with a scholarship worth up to $5,000. Students entering their sophomore, junior, senior, or fifth year of undergraduate coursework with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and interested in pursuing a career in the insurance or financial services industry.

March 31: Women In Defense – Tennessee Valley Chapter (WID-TVC) Scholarship
Focus of the scholarship is on the following preferred fields of study: security studies, military history, government relations, engineering, computer science, cyber security, physics, mathematics, business (as it relates to national security or defense), law (as it relates to national security or defense), international relations, political science, and economics. Others will be considered if the applicant can successfully demonstrate relevance to a career in the areas of national security or defense.

April 15: Elk Springs Resort Scholarship
Elk Springs Resort has recently announced a new annual scholarship that is available to all undergraduate students. We believe in encouraging young adults to follow their dreams and we feel that education is one route that can help many students accomplish their goals and achieve great success. As such, we have a new scholarship available.

This scholarship is merit based and requires that an essay be submitted for the opportunity to be awarded $1,500.

April 30: Leonard J. Crosby Memorial Scholarship
The Huntsville Chapter of NCMA (National Contract Management Association) offers an annual Leonard J. Crosby Memorial Scholarship to local students pursuing a degree in acquisition, contracts, procurement management, or business management. Any NCMA member, relative or non-member who is currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program is encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is offering our future science scholars an opportunity to win $10,000 in scholarship funding for the 2015-16 Fall semester. This scholarship was created to help provide educational opportunities for the future generation of scientists. Description: In order to be considered, write a 600-800 word essay for an uninformed audience on the topic of "How Energy Deregulation Works." Your essay should answer these questions: What are the differences between regulated and deregulated models? Why are some states embracing energy retailer competition while others aren't? How does energy deregulation reflect the ideals of a free market? Is that even an adequate comparison?

December 30: SeniorAdvisor.com: Future of Assisted Living Scholarship
Two $2,000 scholarships available to students enrolled in an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate level program at an accredited 2-year college or 4-year university. Each eligible student must submit a 500-750 word essay response to the question: How can your major of study improve the lives of seniors in assisted living facilities in your town? The deadline is December 31, 2015. Scholarship award recipients will be announced January 31, 2016.

Other Scholarships

The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarships
The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) has scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and grades, not financial need. Army ROTC scholarships consist of:

  • Two, three, and four-year scholarship options based on the time remaining to complete your degree
  • Full-tuition scholarships
  • The option for room and board in place of tuition, if you should qualify
  • Additional allowances for books and fees
  • Living expenses of up to $500 per month during the school year

Athens State University students can enroll in the ROTC program through a visiting student agreement with Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, located just north of Huntsville, Alabama. This agreement allows interested students to earn a commission in the Army upon completion of pre-commissioning training requirements and receipt of their degree. Please call Major Tina Hill at (256)372-4023 to schedule a placement interview.

Comparecards $2500 Monthly Scholorship
Each month CompareCards will award $2,500 to any qualifying college (or college bound) student in need who can answer a tricky trivia question. Using their best pop culture and math skills, and probably a bit of help from Professor Google, students should be able to answer a series of questions to arrive at a final answer in no time!

After the submission deadline, CompareCards will gather all the correct answers and a tiebreaker question will be emailed, with a link to submit the answer. Students who submit the correct tiebreaker answer will be entered into a random drawing and one winner will be selected. The deadline for each month is the 14th and the new trivia question will be posted on the 15th. It will continue through December 2015 so there is plenty of time for your students to get involved!
